The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that India is closely watching West Asia developments and maintaining communication with Gulf nations. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned that India is focused on enhancing energy security and assisting neighboring countries with their energy requirements. India’s ministers are engaging with Gulf countries to bolster energy security, with the External Affairs Minister scheduled to visit the UAE on April 11th and 12th, 2026, to enhance bilateral ties.
India recently supplied 38 metric tonnes of petroleum products to Sri Lanka and is finalizing a government-to-government agreement for oil and gas supply to Mauritius to enhance energy security. Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri is currently in Qatar, conveying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of solidarity and strengthening energy relations between India and Qatar. India expressed deep concern over civilian casualties in Lebanon, emphasizing the need to adhere to international law and respect states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.
MEA spokesperson Jaiswal highlighted India’s troop contribution to UNIFIL in Lebanon and expressed worry over recent events in the region. He mentioned that India prioritizes civilian protection and underscores the importance of upholding international law. With about 1,000 Indian nationals in Lebanon, India remains vigilant about their safety and security. The statement follows a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, with peace talks set to commence, although Israel clarified that military operations in Lebanon are not covered by the truce.
