Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted India’s role as a key player in the global pharmaceutical sector, emphasizing its capabilities as an innovator, manufacturer, and supplier of affordable medicines. He mentioned the industry’s quality standards and manufacturing prowess, noting the country’s increasing focus on research, innovation, and advanced technologies. Goyal invited international companies to invest and collaborate in India, pointing out the sector’s growth towards innovation-driven progress.
India’s pharmaceutical exports have surged from $14 billion in FY 2014-15 to around $31 billion in FY 2025-26, with products reaching over 200 countries. The country’s leadership in generic medicines remains strong, but there is a notable shift towards innovation-led expansion. The upcoming iPHEX 2026 event is crucial for showcasing India’s pharmaceutical and healthcare capabilities globally, with Goyal urging foreign representatives to promote participation from their nations.
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal outlined India’s ambitious target of achieving $50 billion in pharmaceutical exports by 2030 through a focus on quality, innovation, regulatory excellence, and market diversification. He highlighted the vast manufacturing infrastructure in India, with over 10,500 units producing more than 60,000 generic brands across various therapeutic categories. Agrawal also emphasized that a significant portion of India’s pharmaceutical exports caters to highly regulated markets, indicating growing trust in the country’s manufacturing standards.
The iPHEX 2026 event, scheduled for September 7 to 9 at Bharat Mandapam, is expected to host over 700 exhibitors, 600 overseas business delegates, and around 25,000 domestic visitors. Additionally, the Curtain Raiser for the Global Drug Regulatory Conclave 2026, set for July 30–31, was inaugurated alongside iPHEX 2026, with a promotional video unveiling both events. The Global Drug Regulatory Conclave 2026 aims to bring together global regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss regulatory convergence and emerging challenges in pharmaceutical regulation.
The Global Ambassador Meet, attended by representatives from 98 countries, pharmaceutical industry stakeholders, regulators, and government officials, witnessed discussions on India’s commitment to ensuring broader access to quality and affordable healthcare worldwide.
