India has been identified as the second-highest user of the US AI firm Anthropic’s Claude.ai globally, with a focus on technical and software development tasks, according to a report. The report indicates that software development accounts for five of the top 10 use cases in India, with 45.2% of cases centered around computer and mathematical work.
The study highlights that Indian users are significantly involved in tasks related to CSS, HTML, and UI styling, being twice as represented in these areas. Additionally, they are 1.7 times more represented in the creation and debugging of web applications.
Distinct use cases in India include the development of AI systems like chatbots and workflow automation, with a 1.5 times representation. Users also utilize Claude for activities such as job searching, professional growth, academic STEM work, and business planning, as per the report.
The report also mentions India’s Anthropic AI Usage Index at 0.22, which assesses whether Claude’s usage aligns with the working-age population. An index above 1 suggests intensive usage compared to population norms, while below 1 indicates lower-than-expected usage.
Globally, Claude.ai usage is primarily concentrated on coding-related tasks, with countries like the US, India, Japan, the UK, and South Korea leading in overall usage. The report discusses how AI trends are evolving, potentially enhancing certain professionals’ skills while simplifying or deskilling roles for others.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously highlighted India as the AI firm’s second-largest market globally, with the potential to become the largest. India’s youthful and tech-savvy population gives it a significant edge in adopting emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. Indian youth’s rapid adoption of advanced tech tools positions the country as a key global center for innovation and digital skills.
