Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda reiterated India’s strong dedication to advancing the global agenda for women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health during a meeting with Helen Clark, Board Chair of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH). Nadda highlighted India’s longstanding association with PMNCH since its establishment in 2005. He expressed pride in continuing the partnership and contributing significantly to its goals.
Nadda emphasized India’s active leadership role in PMNCH as Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Standing Committee. He mentioned that India’s annual grant contribution of $2 million is currently in progress. Nadda praised India’s achievements in public health, citing the country’s innovative and widespread delivery of health services with a focus on women, children, and adolescents.
India was among the first nations to launch a dedicated national program for adolescents in 2014, reaching young people through various interventions. Nadda highlighted India’s progress in major health indicators, noting significant reductions in Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) that surpass global trends. He also expressed India’s readiness to share evidence-based practices and provide technical guidance to other countries.
Nadda invited PMNCH to showcase India’s successful models and innovations through physical and virtual platforms. He reiterated India’s commitment as Vice Chair of PMNCH, expressing willingness to support the organization across key areas, including Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health (WCAH) and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Helen Clark commended India’s leadership and contributions to global public health, acknowledging its vital role within PMNCH and the broader global health framework.
