India has restated its dedication to enhancing credibility, compliance, and consumer trust in the natural diamond industry as the Kimberley Process Intersessional Meeting 2026 wrapped up in Mumbai under India’s leadership. The meeting, spanning four days, convened Kimberley Process participants, observers, industry representatives, and civil society organizations to progress discussions on monitoring, technical processes, governance, statistics, and artisanal production.
During the meeting, there was a strong emphasis on bolstering transparency, refining operational mechanisms, and fostering trust throughout the natural diamond value chain, according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal emphasized India’s recognition of the Kimberley Process’s crucial role in upholding natural diamonds as symbols of trust, responsibility, and mutual prosperity.
Minister Goyal underscored the significant livelihoods supported by the natural diamond sector across various nations and reiterated India’s commitment to advocating for a robust, transparent Kimberley Process that meets the expectations of both the industry and consumers. KP Chair 2026 Suchindra Misra stressed the enduring importance of trust in the natural diamond trade and highlighted the Kimberley Process’s role in promoting responsible sourcing, transparency, and confidence within the diamond value chain.
The event also shed light on the necessity of improving communication and outreach endeavors to effectively communicate the positive impacts of the Kimberley Process to end consumers. This includes promoting responsible sourcing practices, development outcomes, and livelihood support in producing nations and communities, as per the ministry’s statement. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, established under a United Nations General Assembly Resolution, serves as a global initiative aimed at preventing conflict diamonds from infiltrating legitimate trade and fostering responsible sourcing practices across the natural diamond supply chain.
