India has dispatched 1,000 metric tonnes of rice to Sierra Leone to support its school midday meal program. This initiative underscores India’s dedication to strengthening partnerships with Global South nations and promoting the Sustainable Development Goals. Last year, India and Sierra Leone conducted Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi, focusing on various sectors like trade, investment, health, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
During the consultations, Sevala Naik Mude from the MEA and Alan CE Logan from Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs co-chaired the meeting. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation, with India pledging continued support to Sierra Leone in capacity building across different fields. Discussions also revolved around deepening bilateral ties in defense, energy, and development cooperation.
India and Sierra Leone engaged in talks on regional and global issues, emphasizing cooperation in multilateral organizations such as the United Nations. Sierra Leone expressed willingness to support India’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for 2028-29. Additionally, Sierra Leone agreed to expedite approval to sign the Agreement of International Solar Alliance and join the Global Biofuels Alliance. India and Sierra Leone share a longstanding relationship based on common values and a shared vision, with India committed to supporting Sierra Leone’s development through soft loans, scholarships, and capacity building.
