In a significant development for India’s food exports, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has overseen the dispatch of the first sea shipment of ready-to-cook millet foods from Karnataka to New Zealand. The export included one metric tonne of value-added millet-based products and was carried out by Infini Agrotek LLP, Bengaluru.

This shipment signifies the increasing global demand for innovative millet-based products originating from India’s traditional grains. It also highlights the expanding opportunities for value-added agricultural exports from India, as stated in an official announcement. The exporter, Infini Agrotek LLP, actively engaged in APEDA-supported trade promotion events like ‘World Food India 2025’, ‘Indus Food 2025’, and ‘Gulfood 2026’.

Participation in these exhibitions enabled the company to establish connections with international buyers, broaden its customer base, and enhance its presence in global markets. The export order to New Zealand is a result of continuous market outreach and business networking facilitated by APEDA’s trade promotion initiatives, according to the statement released.

APEDA chairman Abhishek Dev virtually flagged off the shipment and commended the company for its accomplishment. He praised the company’s efforts in developing innovative millet-based products and successfully venturing into international markets. The exporter was encouraged to utilize APEDA’s export promotion initiatives and continue engaging in trade fairs and exhibitions to expand market reach and explore new business prospects.

The export of botanical-infused millet functional foods underscores the growing potential of India’s value-added agricultural products. It is anticipated to benefit millet-growing farmers by boosting demand and enhancing market access. Such endeavors play a crucial role in fortifying India’s agri-export ecosystem while creating opportunities throughout the millet value chain, the statement emphasized.

The successful shipment reflects the increasing global acceptance of innovative millet-based products and reinforces India’s growing prominence in the international millet sector. Millets have become a significant part of India’s agricultural export portfolio due to their nutritional advantages, climate resilience, and rising consumer demand worldwide. The development and export of value-added millet products are opening up new avenues for farmers, food processors, and exporters, contributing to the diversification and expansion of India’s agri-food exports.
