India has sent a second batch of medical assistance to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) to aid in the ongoing Ebola outbreak response. The 43-tonne consignment includes protective gear, diagnostic equipment, medicines, and supplements aimed at strengthening Africa’s public health preparedness.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed the dispatch of the medical aid through social media. He expressed confidence that this consignment would enhance public health readiness and boost Ebola response capabilities in Africa. India had previously sent the first tranche of urgent medical supplies and protective kits to Africa CDC on May 24.
India’s commitment to supporting Africa in combating the Ebola outbreak was reiterated on May 29. The Africa CDC appreciated India’s emergency medical assistance in addressing the Ebola crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The World Health Organization had declared the Ebola situation in the region a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on May 17.
India’s proactive medical assistance to African nations, including during the COVID-19 pandemic, reflects its dedication to global health initiatives.
