Former Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty emphasized India’s consistent stance on the political situation in Bangladesh, advocating for free, fair, inclusive, and credible elections with a peaceful transfer of power to the winning party. India remains impartial and is willing to engage with any democratically elected party. Chakravarty highlighted the importance of upholding the Constitution and expressed concerns over the treatment of Hindus in Bangladesh.
Former diplomat Veena Sikri criticized the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, labeling it as “illegitimate” and holding it accountable for attacks on minorities. She condemned the atrocities against Hindu minorities, citing specific incidents and urging global action against the government. Sikri also mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to protect minorities in Bangladesh.
Another former diplomat, K.P. Fabian, raised alarm over the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh, attributing the chaos to the interim Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus’s inability to control escalating violence. He pointed out external influences exacerbating the situation, particularly forces hostile to India gaining influence and efforts by Pakistan and China to disrupt India-Bangladesh relations.
