Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Sibi George, highlighted India’s concerns regarding cross-border terrorism during the 11th Annual BRICS Counter Terrorism Working Group (CTWG) Meeting in New Delhi. Emphasizing the importance of a collaborative approach, George called for global efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms, focusing on challenges like terror funding mechanisms, radicalization, and the use of new technologies by terrorists.
He underscored the necessity of strengthening the global counter-terrorism architecture through enhanced international cooperation. Sibi George also advocated for making the BRICS CTWG more resilient, innovative, and outcome-oriented to address terrorism effectively. India, as the BRICS chair in 2026, aims to deepen cooperation with member countries for a secure and terrorism-free world.
Reflecting on the theme of ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,’ India’s commitment to a people-centric approach was reiterated. The BRICS formation, initially BRIC, evolved to include South Africa in 2010, with subsequent expansions to include new member and partner countries in the following years.
