India expressed strong condemnation for the recent attack on French UN Peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. The attack resulted in the death of a French soldier and injuries to three others, confirmed by French President Emmanuel Macron. The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement paying tribute to the fallen soldier and wishing a quick recovery to the injured peacekeepers.

India highlighted its role in piloting UN Security Council Resolution 2589 on Accountability for Crimes against Peacekeepers. The country urged Lebanon to promptly investigate the attack, bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure accountability for the crime against UN Peacekeepers. Additionally, India emphasized the importance of upholding the sanctity and security of UN premises and personnel.

French President Macron attributed the attack to Hezbollah and called for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators by Lebanese authorities. He expressed solidarity with the families of the soldiers and military personnel involved in peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon. UNIFIL reported that the attack occurred during a patrol clearing explosive ordnance, resulting in one peacekeeper’s death and injuries to three others.
