The President of Rwanda extended an invitation to Union Minister Jitendra Singh to participate in the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa. Jacqueline Mukangira, the High Commissioner of Rwanda to India, personally delivered the invitation to Jitendra Singh. The summit, known as NEISA 2026, is set to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from May 18 to 21.
Jitendra Singh expressed his regret at not being able to attend the event in person but agreed to virtually participate and speak at a session during the summit. The Department of Atomic Energy confirmed this decision in a press release. NEISA 2026 is a collaborative effort held at the Kigali Convention Centre involving various international and regional institutions such as the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and others.
During the meeting between the High Commissioner and the Minister, discussions revolved around enhancing cooperation between India and Rwanda in areas like science, technology, atomic energy applications, digital capacity building, and emerging technologies. Jitendra Singh highlighted India’s increasing global involvement in sectors like nuclear energy, space technology, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and digital governance, aligning with Narendra Modi’s vision for technology-driven inclusive development.
The Rwandan delegation showed a keen interest in India’s expanding scientific and technological capabilities and expressed a desire to strengthen institutional partnerships with Indian ministries, scientific organizations, and innovation platforms. Both sides explored potential collaborations in research, education, innovation ecosystems, and capacity-building initiatives. India emphasized its commitment to international cooperation in emerging technologies and sustainable development, aiming to bolster ties with Global South countries in science and innovation.
