India has strongly denounced the recent attack on a commercial vessel, Settebello, off the coast of Oman. Out of the 24 Indian crew members onboard, 21 have been rescued while 3 remain missing. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has affirmed its condemnation of such incidents and is actively engaged in coordinating with Omani authorities for the ongoing Search and Rescue operation.
The MEA expressed deep concern over the recurring attacks on shipping in the region, attributing them to the ongoing conflict. It emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation of tensions and the resolution of negotiations to restore peace and stability in the region. The statement called for an end to the targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure, advocating for free and unimpeded navigation in accordance with international law.
The Indian Embassy in Oman reported an incident involving a vessel off the coast of Oman and assured close monitoring of the situation in collaboration with local authorities. Previously, 24 Indian seafarers aboard MT Marivex were rescued following a fire incident near the Strait of Hormuz. The MEA spokesperson expressed gratitude to the Omani government for their assistance in the rescue operation, highlighting the safe evacuation of all crew members.
