Defending champions India are set to play against New Zealand in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
India’s journey to the final has been impressive, with seven wins out of eight matches. They started with a 29-run victory against the United States national cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium on February 7. The team then secured a convincing 93-run win over Namibia in Delhi on February 12.
One of the crucial wins for India in the group stage was against arch-rivals Pakistan, where they triumphed by 61 runs in Colombo on February 15. The team continued their momentum with a 17-run victory over the Netherlands in Ahmedabad on February 18.
Despite a setback against South Africa, who defeated them by 76 runs in Ahmedabad on February 22, India bounced back strongly. They defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs in Chennai on February 26 and overcame the West Indies by five wickets in Kolkata on March 1, securing a spot in the semi-finals.
In a tense semi-final match, India managed to edge past England by seven runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5, solidifying their place in the final after a resilient tournament run.
India and New Zealand have a history in T20 cricket, having faced each other 30 times. Out of these encounters, India has emerged victorious in 18 matches, while New Zealand has won 11.
