The India U20 women’s team, comprising 24 players, has landed in Thailand to prepare for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup. They will spend 13 days in Bangkok acclimatizing before their first Group C match scheduled for April 2 against Japan. Following this, India will face Australia on April 5 and Chinese Taipei on April 8.
Under the guidance of Swedish head coach Joakim Alexandersson, the team commenced training in Bengaluru in January after the IWL’s initial phase. Subsequently, they underwent a month-long camp in Sweden, engaging in five friendly matches against Swedish club sides’ senior teams. Upon returning from Scandinavia, the team continued training in Kolkata before departing for Thailand.
Joakim Alexandersson will finalize the 23-member squad closer to the tournament, with the current 24-member squad including goalkeepers Monalisha Devi Moirangthem, Nandini, and Ribansi Jamu, defenders like Alka Indwar and Cindy Remruatpuii Colney, midfielders such as Anju Chanu Kayenpaibam and Arina Devi Nameirakpam, and forwards like Babita Kumari and Deepika Pal.
