India’s vice-captain Tilak Varma expressed contentment with India’s score of 219/5 against Zimbabwe in the second T20I at Harare Sports Club. Varma highlighted the significance of achieving a total around 200 on a challenging pitch and credited his improved hitting skills for the team’s success.
Varma’s quick 60 off 29 balls, in partnership with Ishan Kishan’s 81 off 44 balls, propelled India to a commanding position. Varma mentioned that batting in the middle overs was tough but felt positive about the team’s total, considering it a strong score for the conditions.
Discussing his adaptable role in the team and approach to finishing matches, Varma emphasized the importance of playing grounded shots over risky aerial strokes. He expressed his willingness to contribute wherever the team needs him and stressed the value of consistency and finishing games from his childhood.
Varma acknowledged the technical guidance received from head coach Gautam Gambhir and BCCI CoE head of cricket VVS Laxman, who is serving as the stand-in head coach in Zimbabwe. He credited their advice on playing through the ground for his improved performance and expressed satisfaction with his efforts paying off in the match.
