India’s bowling coach, Aavishkar Salvi, highlighted the significance of the two warm-up matches leading to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. These matches provided valuable exposure and confidence to the team before their opening game against Pakistan. Despite a mixed build-up, including losses to South Africa and England, India managed to outsmart the West Indies in the warm-up games.
Salvi emphasized that the warm-up matches allowed players to execute their game plans effectively. He mentioned that the primary focus for the Indian team is always to win games and provide exposure to all players expected to participate in the World Cup. India, placed in Group 1 alongside strong teams like Australia and South Africa, viewed these matches as opportunities to express themselves on the field.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Salvi praised individual players like Shreyanka, Radha, and Kranti for their standout contributions. He also commended Bharti and Richa for their batting displays in the warm-up games. Salvi expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparation, including a series against England and the recent matches in Cardiff, which he considered a valuable learning experience for the squad.
In terms of readiness for the upcoming challenges, Salvi noted that the exposure gained from these matches has prepared the players well and familiarized them with the conditions. He expressed confidence that the team is well-equipped to face the competition ahead in the T20 World Cup.
