An Indian-American soldier, Angela Rampersad, is feared to have been killed during an Iranian attack on a base in Jordan, as per the Pentagon. The 25-year-old Army sergeant is believed to have been killed in action on July 17, 2026, during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, Jordan, according to the Department of War, which stated that the incident is under investigation.
She was previously listed as missing, and her status was updated to a Duty Status – Whereabouts Unknown, with the belief that she is deceased, as mentioned in a statement. Rampersad hails from the Indian community of immigrants from Guyana, and her father, identified as Basdeo Rampersad by a local Democratic Party leader, resides in the Ozone Park neighborhood of Queens borough in New York City, known for its large community of Indian-descent Guyanese.
Pesach Osina, the Democratic Party leader, praised Rampersad as a valuable individual to all who knew her, highlighting her dedication to serving and protecting others with courage and humility. Osina, the Democratic Party nominee for the State Assembly constituency where Rampersad’s family lives, expressed his closeness to her family following the tragic event.
President Donald Trump has pledged to avenge the attack on Rampersad and other US Army personnel confirmed killed in the Friday attack. He emphasized that Iran will face severe consequences for their actions, stating that every time Iran kills an American Soldier, they will pay a heavy price. If her death is confirmed, Rampersad would be the fourth US Army personnel killed in the attack on the base, amidst escalating tensions between the US and Iran.
Rampersad, serving with the 10th Army Air & Missile Defense Command in Ansbach, Germany, was on duty in Jordan when Iran launched drones on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base.
