Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs, P Kumaran, met with a Cambodian delegation led by KHY Sovanratana, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in New Delhi. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, investments, heritage conservation, and development partnership. They also reviewed India’s capacity building initiatives for Cambodia, including training Cambodian diplomats at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service.
During high-level military engagements in Phnom Penh, India and Cambodia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation. Major General Akaash Johar of the Indian Army’s International Cooperation Directorate met with Lt General Mao Sophan of the Royal Cambodian Army to discuss joint military engagement, training cooperation, and defence ties. Both countries emphasized increasing joint military exercises and enhancing coordination in the defence sector.
The officials highlighted military capacity building, professional military education, and exchange of operational experience as key areas of cooperation. India aims to enhance practical cooperation with friendly nations in defence beyond formal dialogues. Cambodia expressed interest in sending more personnel to India for training and specialized courses in the future. Both sides reiterated their dedication to bolstering defence ties for long-term strategic partnership to promote regional peace and stability.
