Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi shared that the Indian Army purposely postponed a planned strike during Operation Sindoor to avoid interrupting ‘namaz’ at a terrorist camp. He highlighted the deliberate decision to balance military objectives with humanitarian concerns. General Dwivedi mentioned on a podcast that the operation’s timing was flexible, but the commanders opted for restraint upon realizing the ongoing prayers at the target site.

His comments provided insight into the decision-making process during Operation Sindoor, showcasing a consideration for religious practices even in conflict scenarios. This approach reflects a blend of ethical judgment and military strategy in leadership. General Dwivedi emphasized that such decisions are not random but are rooted in a broader value system guiding the force in complex environments.

The Army Chief also discussed how personal influences, particularly his daughters, have influenced his leadership style and views on hierarchy and gender within the Army. Regarding the induction of women into the Army, General Dwivedi mentioned that his daughters play a significant role in guiding him on social change and workplace norms. He acknowledged their input seriously and implements it as necessary.

General Dwivedi stressed the importance of adaptability and intrinsic motivation over academic grades during a candid conversation about his formative years and military journey. He highlighted the significance of attitude and adaptability over mere academic performance, emphasizing character development beyond academic achievements. Additionally, he shared how spirituality, including references to the Bhagavad Gita, helps him navigate ethical challenges in counter-terrorism efforts.
