General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GoC-in-C) of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, recently assessed the security status and operational readiness of troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. The review included interactions with troops, including those from the BSF, praising their resilience, courage, and commitment to duty. Emphasis was placed on adopting new technologies for enhanced readiness.
Jammu and Kashmir encompasses a 740-km-long LoC spanning Rajouri, Poonch, parts of Jammu district, Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara districts. The Army is stationed along the LoC, while the International Border, stretching 240 km, lies in Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts. The Border Security Force (BSF) guards the International Border to deter infiltration, exfiltration, and illicit activities from the Pakistani side.
Terror groups from Pakistan, aided by drones, have been attempting to transport arms, cash, and drugs into Jammu and Kashmir. Anti-drone measures have been implemented by the Army and BSF to counter such activities. The use of advanced anti-drone technology has notably reduced drone incidents in the region, although sporadic sightings still occur along the LoC and International Border.
