Indian athletes showcased remarkable performances on the opening day of the New Delhi 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix, clinching numerous gold medals and podium finishes in various track and field events. In the Men’s high jump T42, Shailesh Kumar secured the gold medal with a jump of 1.84m, while Ramsingbhai Gov Padhiyar and Lokesh Mantra took silver and bronze, respectively, completing an Indian clean sweep. India’s dominance continued in the Men’s High Jump T44 event, with Praveen Kumar winning gold, Unni Renu securing silver, and Banti claiming bronze.
India’s success extended to the Women’s 100m T35/T37 event, where Preeti Pal clinched the gold medal with a time of 14.46 seconds. In the Men’s Discus Throw F11/F12, Monu, Praveen Sharma, and Sanjay Reddy Neelam secured the top three spots, contributing to another Indian podium sweep. The Men’s Discus Throw F37 saw Haney, Rishi Raj Rathore, and Bhavishay clinch the gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively.
Indian athletes continued their winning streak in various events, including the Women’s 1500m T11/T12, Women’s Shot Put F33/F34, Women’s Shot Put F56, Men’s 1500m T11, Men’s 1500m T20, Men’s 100m T36/T37/T38, Men’s 1500m T12/T13, Men’s 1500m T37/T46, Men’s 1500m T53/T54, and Men’s Discus Throw F44/F64. The event highlighted India’s strong presence in global para sports, with the largest contingent of around 219 athletes competing against participants from eight nations.
