Indian Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa made history by clinching the Norway Chess title, becoming the first Indian to achieve this feat. Following his success, his sister R Vaishali secured victory in the WR Women’s Chess Tour event in Tokyo, Japan. Vaishali emerged victorious in the rapid event, outshining strong competitors like Alexandra Kosteniuk and Kateryna Lagno.
Vaishali, the 24-year-old from Chennai, displayed exceptional skill in the tournament, defeating players like IM Alua Nurman to claim the title. She also triumphed over former Women’s World Champion Kosteniuk on her path to victory. With her rapid title secured, Vaishali now aims to excel in the upcoming blitz event scheduled to commence soon.
Praggnanandhaa, on the other hand, achieved a remarkable comeback in the Norway Chess championship, securing the title by defeating Vincent Keymer in the final round. This victory marked him as the first Indian to win this prestigious championship, earning a prize of $100,000. Praggnanandhaa’s strategic play and resilience throughout the tournament led to his well-deserved triumph.
