The Indian Coast Guard swiftly responded to a distress call from cargo vessel MV SITTHAA, which encountered flooding in multiple compartments while sailing near Tiruchendur, Tamil Nadu. On June 27, the Coast Guard’s specialist boarding team aboard ICG Ship Atulya provided immediate assistance to stabilize the situation and prevent further escalation. The rescue operation, detailed by the Coast Guard, aimed to ensure the safety of the vessel, its crew, and the marine environment.
In close coordination with salvage experts, the Coast Guard’s personnel actively engaged in emergency repairs and dewatering operations to control the flooding on MV SITTHAA. The vessel was directed to head to Tuticorin Port for sustainable repairs, with the Coast Guard maintaining constant communication with the ship’s Master, salvage company, and Port authorities to guarantee the well-being of the crew and the marine ecosystem. A video shared by the ICG depicted the team conducting pumping and flood-control activities within the vessel’s machinery spaces as part of the emergency response.
This successful rescue mission by the Indian Coast Guard is part of a series of recent operations aimed at safeguarding maritime interests and ensuring the safety of vessels navigating Indian waters.
