The Indian community in New Zealand is excitedly anticipating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Auckland on Friday, marking the first official visit by an Indian PM to the country in 40 years. Former Consul of India in Auckland, Bhav Dhillon, emphasized the strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations, pointing out recent agreements like the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the air connectivity pact. He highlighted the enthusiasm within the Indian community to welcome PM Modi.
PM Modi is scheduled to arrive in Auckland on Friday for an official visit at the invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. The visit will include discussions with Luxon to review the comprehensive bilateral relationship. Additionally, PM Modi will engage with prominent figures from the business and sports sectors and address a large gathering of the Indian community in New Zealand.
Dhillon noted the potential for collaboration between Indian and New Zealand businesses, particularly in agri-technology and high-tech goods and services. He also highlighted opportunities for Indian students to study in New Zealand. The Indian community is eagerly looking forward to the ‘Kia Ora Modi’ welcome reception, with an estimated 10,000-12,000 attendees expected at the event.
PM Modi’s visit to New Zealand follows PM Luxon’s visit to India in March 2025.
