Around 25% of Indian companies feel their workforce is adequately prepared to utilize artificial intelligence, marking a 12-point decrease from 2025, despite the increasing adoption of AI in businesses, as per a report by Kyndryl. Approximately 56% of Indian organizations have integrated AI broadly or within core business processes, a significant rise from 36% in 2025, the report noted.
This widening gap between AI aspirations and workforce readiness has left 81% of Indian leaders anxious about the possibility of AI advancements outpacing workforce capabilities, governance frameworks, and operating models. Moreover, nearly 84% of Indian organizations anticipate autonomous AI agents to start making substantial decisions within the next year, with only 28% expressing full trust in autonomous AI systems operating without human supervision.
To bridge this gap, 69% of surveyed Indian organizations have revamped roles within or across functions to support AI adoption, and 33% have introduced formal budgets and proactive upskilling strategies. However, the pace of organizational transformation seems to be surpassing the development of governance, trust, and oversight frameworks.
The report emphasized that the success of AI implementation hinges not only on strategies, use cases, or technologies but also on organizations’ ability to redesign work and manage these changes effectively throughout their structures. It also highlighted the importance of deliberate operating model and governance changes in building trust in AI.
