The Indian Consulate in Toronto expressed condolences for the passing of Vidhi Megha, an Indian student who lost her life in the Niagara region on May 15. The Consulate assured full support and assistance to the family of the deceased during this difficult time. They are in contact with family members in India and Canada, as well as the funeral home, to facilitate the transportation of Vidhi Megha’s remains to India.
The Niagara Regional Police Service reported that officers found Vidhi Kalpeshkumar Megha, 23, deceased in a residence in St Catharines. The NRPS Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation into her death. Another individual, an adult male, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Vidhi’s father in Gurajat’s Anand shared that she had been in Canada for four years. He recounted that she was involved in a confrontation with a drug dealer over money, leading to a fatal attack with a knife. Seeking swift repatriation of his daughter’s body to India, he called for government assistance. Joshua St Omar, a 40-year-old from St Catharines, was arrested on May 18 by NRPS detectives and charged with second-degree murder.
