The event, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Guest of Honour during his State visit, showcased the strong defense partnership between the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi expressed pride as contingents from the Assam Regiment and the Indian Navy engaged in the celebrations, highlighting the enduring friendship between India and Seychelles. Indian Naval Ships Tarkash and Ikshak also docked at Port Victoria as part of the festivities, emphasizing India’s commitment to maritime cooperation and regional security.
During the celebrations, Prime Minister Modi commended the Seychellois people’s remarkable journey over the past fifty years and reiterated India’s support for Seychelles’ development. The event marked the Golden Jubilee of Seychelles’ Independence, underscoring the growing partnership between the two countries based on shared values and strong people-to-people ties.
The Seychelles’ National Day festivities featured soldiers parachuting into the venue with national flags, symbolizing the nation’s 50th anniversary of independence. Notable dignitaries present included External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, alongside Prime Minister Modi.
