Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Seychelles to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country’s National Day as the Guest of Honour, members of the Indian diaspora in Seychelles are hopeful that the visit will bolster the relationship and business connections between India and Seychelles.
One member of the diaspora, residing in Seychelles for eight years and originally from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, highlighted Seychelles’ significance as a strategic partner for India in defense and security matters. The upcoming visit of PM Modi is expected to further enhance the economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Veronica, another member of the Indian diaspora in Seychelles, expressed her excitement for Prime Minister Modi’s visit, especially on the occasion of Seychelles’ 50th Independence anniversary celebrations. The visit is part of a State visit to Seychelles, at the invitation of President Patrick Herminie, scheduled from June 27-29.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will engage in discussions with President Herminie to assess the broad range of bilateral cooperation and exchange perspectives on regional and global issues of mutual concern, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) statement. Additionally, PM Modi is set to address the Seychelles National Assembly and meet with members of the Indian diaspora residing in Seychelles.
India and Seychelles share a deep-rooted partnership based on historical, cultural, and people-to-people connections. The visit aims to reaffirm the enduring friendship between the two nations and strengthen the commitment to enhance bilateral relations across various sectors, in line with India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and its dedication to the Global South.
A contingent from the Indian armed forces, accompanied by two Indian Navy ships, will take part in the golden jubilee celebrations of Seychelles’ National Day, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs.
