The Indian Embassy in Muscat is working on evacuating Indian nationals from MT Jalveer to Shinas Port with the assistance of the Royal Navy of Oman. Efforts are underway to transfer the crew to Shinas port, coordinated with the Royal Navy of Oman, and the process is expected to be completed soon. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways confirmed the safety of all 20 Indian seafarers aboard MT Jalveer following an attack near the Shinas port in Oman.
Addressing a press briefing, Mukesh Mangal, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, expressed India’s concern over disruptions to commercial shipping. He emphasized the need for secure and uninterrupted navigation in international waters in adherence to international law. The Guinea-Bissau-flagged vessel, MT Jalveer, with twenty Indian crew members, was attacked near the Shinas port in Oman, and all crew members are reported safe. The Indian mission in Oman is actively monitoring the situation and collaborating with Omani authorities for the safe evacuation of the Indian crew.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted India’s priority on the safety of Indian seafarers and expressed worry over the repeated attacks on shipping in West Asia. Jaiswal linked the incidents to the ongoing conflict in the region and called for dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace and stability promptly. Stressing the importance of seafarers’ safety and free navigation through international waters, Jaiswal condemned the recent attacks on shipping in the region. India has condemned the attack on a ship off the coast of Oman, where three Indian nationals lost their lives, and has urged for an end to such attacks through diplomatic efforts.
