The Indian Embassy in Oman is actively working on repatriating an Indian national, Nishanth Uirthanathan, who passed away on ‘MT Celestial’ at Duqm Port due to medical reasons. Efforts are underway to ensure the swift return of his mortal remains to India, with the Embassy in contact with Uirthanathan’s family, vessel crew, and relevant authorities.
The Embassy has been coordinating closely with the ship management company and other stakeholders to facilitate the early disembarkation and repatriation of Uirthanathan’s remains. Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, the Embassy is making necessary arrangements for the repatriation process.
Following recent incidents involving Indian crew members, including a fatal attack on ‘Settebello’, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned the US Charge d’Affaires to protest against attacks by US naval forces on commercial vessels carrying Indian seafarers in the Gulf of Oman. India emphasized the need for measures to prevent civilian casualties and ensure maritime security in the region.
In a separate incident, all 20 Indian crew members aboard ‘MT Jalveer’ were rescued with Omani authorities’ assistance after an attack near the Shinas port in Oman. The Indian government continues to monitor and address security concerns affecting Indian seafarers in the region.
