The Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL), in collaboration with the Indian Golf Union (IGU), the Professional Golfers’ Association of India (PGAI), and The Golf Foundation (TGF), unveiled the ‘Golf Growth Initiative.’ This pioneering program aims to foster the future Indian golf talents by introducing the sport in schools and playgrounds across the nation. The initiative, inaugurated at Delhi Golf Club with tennis icon Leander Paes in attendance, signifies a significant advancement in golf development, ensuring the nurturing of talent from all regions of India for competitive success.
The program brings together the entire golfing community, including mentorship from esteemed golf legends such as Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa, Shiv Kapur, Gaganjeet Bhullar, SSP Chawrasia, and Gaurav Ghei, to elevate and enhance the sport. Notably, the IGPL has formed a strategic alliance with The Golf Foundation (TGF) to bolster grassroots scouting efforts. Furthermore, plans have been revealed to establish modern training centers in Orissa, Gurgaon, and Andhra Pradesh promptly this year, serving as regional hubs for identifying emerging talent and providing professional-grade facilities.
Going beyond conventional academies, the initiative will conduct interactive golf sessions in schools, introducing the sport to thousands of students for the first time. This collaborative effort involves the IGU, PGAI, schools, and corporate partners, creating a cohesive framework for early talent identification. Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO of IGPL, emphasized the initiative’s objective of propelling Indian golf onto the global stage by engaging with schools and playgrounds directly, ensuring comprehensive talent development with the support of Amit Luthra’s foundation and the IGU.
A key component of the initiative is a holistic mentorship approach, where young players will train and compete alongside established Indian golf stars. Golfing icons like Shiv Kapur and Gaganjeet Bhullar will actively mentor new talents, preparing them for international competition. Renowned Indian golf figure and IGPL Icon Player Jeev Milkha Singh highlighted the significance of structured guidance and mentorship in accelerating the learning curve for young players, fostering a belief in their ability to compete at the highest level.
