The Indian Embassy in Nepal announced the commencement of the construction of Siddhanath Secondary School in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, Kailali district. The school building, funded by the Indian government with approximately NPR 36 million, is part of the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) scheme. Local representatives and stakeholders gathered for the foundation stone-laying ceremony led by Narayan Singh, First Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
The Mayor of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, Gopal Hamal, and other stakeholders expressed gratitude for the Indian government’s support. They believe that the new school infrastructure will enhance the learning environment for both students and teachers in the region. The Embassy highlighted the strong cooperation between India and Nepal, emphasizing the significance of the HICDPs in fostering growth and development by bolstering infrastructure in key sectors.
The High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) play a vital role in the India-Nepal development partnership, focusing on grassroots development initiatives in Nepal. These projects, previously known as Small Development Projects, aim to enhance local-level infrastructure to facilitate the delivery of public services by local governments. Launched in 2003, the HICDPs cover various sectors such as health, education, water supply, sanitation, electrification, and river training works, aligning with Nepal’s priority areas.
A recent agreement in January 2024 significantly raised the financial assistance ceiling from NPR 5 million to NPR 20 million per project, underscoring the commitment to supporting local infrastructure development in Nepal. This initiative reflects India’s ongoing efforts to contribute to Nepal’s progress and prosperity through collaborative projects at the grassroots level.
