The Indian government has refuted false claims spread on social media and issued a caution regarding an AI-generated deepfake video featuring Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, being shared by Pakistani propaganda accounts to deceive the public. The Press Information Bureau’s fact-checking unit emphasized that Pakistani propaganda accounts are utilizing AI to wrongly attribute statements suggesting India’s support for the Taliban. The PIB fact-check clarified that the video circulating, which alleges General Upendra Dwivedi’s remarks on India’s involvement with the Taliban, is fabricated and digitally manipulated.

Pakistani propaganda accounts are disseminating a manipulated video falsely asserting that Indian Army chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, made comments regarding India’s interactions with the Taliban, as per the PIB fact-check statement. The statement further affirmed that General Upendra Dwivedi did not make any such remarks, denouncing the viral clip as digitally altered to falsely attribute statements to the Chief of the Army Staff. The manipulated video distorts original footage from a recent press conference by General Upendra Dwivedi, where he mentioned the ongoing ‘Operation Sindoor’ and the readiness of all three Services of the Indian Armed Forces for potential future scenarios, including ‘Operation Sindoor 2.0’, if necessary.

Following the Passing Out Parade of the 150th Course of the National Defence Academy in Pune, General Dwivedi, during a press conference, emphasized that despite the current lull in hostilities, the Armed Forces remain vigilant and prepared. He highlighted the continuation of ‘Operation Sindoor’ and the readiness for ‘Operation Sindoor 2.0’ if the need arises, stressing the focus on enhancing synergy among the Services and preparing for upcoming warfare challenges.
