The High Commissioner of India to Kenya, Adarsh Swaika, recently met with Norah Ratemo, Director General of Kenya Development Corporation (KDC), to assess the progress of the USD 15 million Line of Credit (LoC). The High Commission of India in Nairobi shared that 16 projects have been completed under this LoC, with six more projects currently in progress. High Commissioner Swaika emphasized the importance of prompt implementation of the LoC for Kenyan small and medium enterprises (SMEs) seeking machinery and equipment from India.
In a separate meeting, the High Commissioner engaged with Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry to discuss enhancing collaboration in climate-related initiatives. The focus was on bolstering India-Kenya cooperation in climate action, forestry, and environmental conservation. The discussions also touched upon aligning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Plant in the Name of your Mother” initiative with President William Ruto’s 15 Billion Trees Campaign.
Furthermore, both parties explored opportunities for joint environmental endeavors and partnerships between forestry and environmental institutions of India and Kenya. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the commitment to fortify the enduring partnership between India and Kenya, rooted in the shared aspirations of the Global South. This affirmation followed his meeting with Kenyan President William Ruto during the Group of Seven (G7) Summit.
