India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, visited Prime Minister Tarique Rehman in Dhaka to convey Eid greetings. The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh shared that Verma exchanged warm wishes with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Eid-ul-Fitr, the significant Muslim festival, was celebrated in Bangladesh with fervor on Saturday.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also engaged with Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, in New Delhi. Discussions between the two diplomats focused on enhancing bilateral relations. Verma had a series of meetings with ministers of the newly-formed Bangladesh Nationalist Party government led by Tarique Rahman to discuss ways to boost bilateral cooperation.
During his visit, Verma met with Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Minister, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, to explore common interests like strengthening cooperation in local governance and rural development. Both sides agreed to enhance engagement in areas such as the rural economy, agricultural cooperatives, and financial empowerment at the grassroots level.
The High Commission emphasized that India-Bangladesh relations are rooted in people-to-people connections and expressed readiness to collaborate positively for mutual benefit. Verma also had discussions with Minister of Liberation War Affairs, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, highlighting the strong historical ties between the two nations based on shared sacrifices during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. They emphasized the importance of working together with mutual respect and trust to further strengthen people-to-people relations.
