Indian men’s hockey team midfielder Manpreet Singh matched former captain Dilip Tirkey’s record of 412 international caps during India’s FIH Pro League 2025-26 match against the Netherlands. This milestone makes Manpreet the second Indian men’s hockey player to achieve this feat and the only active player with over 400 international appearances. The achievement comes at a crucial time for India’s campaign in the Pro League, aiming to improve their standings.
Congratulating Manpreet on this accomplishment, Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey praised his dedication, commitment, and consistency over the years. The team, led by Harmanpreet Singh, is striving to enhance its position in the tournament after a slow start with only four points from eight matches. Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh also commended Manpreet for his significant contribution to the national team, highlighting his leadership and performance under pressure.
Manpreet Singh, a veteran in Indian hockey, has been instrumental in the team’s success over the past decade, participating in various prestigious events like the Olympics, World Cups, Asian Games, and Champions Trophy. His role was pivotal in India clinching the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, ending a 41-year medal drought in hockey at the Games. The team is set to face Germany in consecutive matches followed by a game against the Netherlands, aiming to secure points for the upcoming season of the Pro League.
