India’s junior squash team made an impressive start at the 33rd Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships in Panzhihua, China. Dhairya Gogia, an unseeded player, caused a major upset in the boys’ U-13 category by defeating Hong Kong’s Tse Ka Chun in a thrilling four-game match. This victory set a positive tone for the Indian squad across various age groups.
In the U-13 boys’ category, Amarya Bajaj continued India’s success by winning against Macau’s Chau Hyo Chon with dominant scores. Additionally, Abhyuday Arora secured a victory over Sri Lanka’s Danuja Jayasinghe. On the girls’ side, Riyaa Dalal and Alia Kankaria also registered wins against their opponents from Sri Lanka and Korea, respectively.
The Indian players showcased strong performances in the U-15 category as well. Dhruv Johri comfortably defeated his Sri Lankan opponent, while Vedant Agarwal faced a tough five-set match against Singapore’s Jackrish Kumar Sashikumar. Moving to the U-17 division, Indian players like Hridhaan Shah, Lokesh Subramani, Shiven Agarwal, and Raghav Vashishta secured victories against competitors from China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
In the U-19 girls’ category, Unnati Tripathi advanced due to Li Shiqi’s mid-match retirement, while Akanksha Gupta, Vyomika Khandelwal, and Eesha Shrivastava achieved impressive wins against players from Japan, Korea, and China. India’s strong performance across different age groups on the opening day signals a competitive edge as the championship progresses.
