With just a month left until the FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium and Netherlands 2026 kicks off, Indian men’s hockey chief coach Craig Fulton mentions that the team is back in camp, feeling rejuvenated, and intensifying their preparations for the upcoming event. The World Cup, set from August 15 to 30, will witness both men’s and women’s tournaments concurrently held in Belgium and the Netherlands, marking a significant milestone.
The Indian men’s team is in high spirits following a successful European leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League, securing impressive victories against top teams like Germany, the Netherlands, and Pakistan, and displaying a competitive spirit against England. Fulton highlighted the positive atmosphere in the national camp, emphasizing the players’ renewed energy and enthusiasm after their break post the Pro League matches.
As the countdown to the World Cup begins, India, the 1975 world champions, is placed in Pool D alongside England, Pakistan, and Wales. The team will commence its campaign against Wales on August 15, followed by matches against England on August 17 and Pakistan on August 19. Notably, the clash with Pakistan is anticipated to be a key fixture in the group stage.
Fulton detailed the training approach, focusing initially on physical conditioning and gradually transitioning to tactical training and decision-making processes. The coaching staff is implementing a structured training regimen, including small-sided games to enhance decision-making skills under pressure and daily video reviews to reinforce learning and improve team strategies.
