Indian middle-distance runners excelled at the Asian U23 Athletics Championships 2026 in Ordos, China, securing two bronze medals on the second day. Abhay Singh claimed a bronze in the men’s 200m event, while Shakeel and Vinod Kumar B also performed well in the men’s 800m, with Shakeel winning bronze and Vinod finishing fourth. Bhumeshwory Devi Huidrom added another bronze for India in the women’s 800m race.
In the men’s 200m race, Abhay Singh secured another bronze with an impressive time of 20.96 seconds. Notably, Abhay also played a guiding role for Simran Sharma’s success at the Paris Paralympics. Meanwhile, in other events, India’s Sharuk Khan finished fourth in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, and Abhijit Sanjay Bhosale also secured fourth place in the decathlon.
On the opening day, the Indian team clinched a gold medal in the mixed 4x400m relay, showcasing a strong start to the championships. The team’s success continued with medals in various events, including men’s 5,000m, men’s discus throw, and women’s 3,000m steeplechase. The quartet’s victory in the mixed relay was a standout moment, with a winning time of 3:18.64 seconds.
