In an effort to garner backing for Indian athletes participating in the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, in collaboration with the Indian diaspora, orchestrated a cycling event named ‘Cheer 4 Bharat’ to advocate global physical well-being.
This marks India’s 19th appearance at the Commonwealth Games, with a 124-member Indian contingent set to compete in Glasgow, Scotland, across eight able-bodied sports and five para-sports disciplines. The campaign will kick off with lawn bowl events for both men and women.
Mandaviya emphasized the broader message conveyed by the initiative, stating that fitness is a crucial aspect for every individual worldwide. He highlighted the significance of supporting Indian athletes and the essential role of fitness in building a healthy society and a prosperous nation.
The minister underscored the various benefits of cycling, citing its role in combating environmental pollution, promoting personal fitness, and alleviating urban traffic congestion. The cycling event organized under the ‘Cheer 4 Bharat’ banner aimed to advocate global environmental responsibility while showing solidarity with Indian athletes on the global stage.
