Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, currently in Bishkek for a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting, paid a courtesy call to Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov. Rai, along with other delegation heads, attended the Meeting of Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs and Public Security of SCO member states chaired by Kyrgyzstan from June 4-6.
Rai’s visit to Bishkek began with a warm welcome by Col. General Ulan Niyazbekov, Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyz Republic, and Ambassador Birender Singh Yadav at Manas airport. Kyrgyzstan, holding the SCO chairmanship for 2025-2026, has set the theme ’25 Years of the SCO: Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity’ for its presidency.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had previously visited Kyrgyzstan in April to participate in the SCO Defence Ministers Meeting. The SCO, founded on June 15, 2001, by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, welcomed India and Pakistan in 2017, followed by Iran in 2023 and Belarus in 2024, expanding its membership to 10 states.
