Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, will head the Indian team at the Second International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) in New York from May 4-8, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs. The IMRF is a key global platform for discussing the Global Compact on Migration and its link to Sustainable Development Goals.
The forum will include interactive round tables, a policy debate, and a plenary session, culminating in a progress declaration. India actively participated in the first IMRF in 2022, emphasizing the protection and advancement of its migrant community.
MoS Singh will present India’s national statement at the IMRF’s plenary session and host a side-event on ‘Leveraging Digital Innovation in Migration Governance.’ Additionally, he is expected to engage with UN officials and ministers from other member states during his visit to the US.
The IMRF, focusing on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, is crucial for assessing GCM implementation progress. The upcoming second IMRF, led by the President of the UN General Assembly, aims to review achievements and set future directions for the next five years.
