The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that during an attack on a commercial vessel in the Black Sea, one Indian national lost his life. The incident occurred on July 18, with three Indians among the ten crew members on board the vessel MV OMORFI.
The MEA expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and stated that the other two Indian nationals on the vessel are safe. The Indian Mission in Russia is actively engaging with authorities to provide assistance to the affected family members.
India strongly denounced the attack on commercial shipping, emphasizing the need to safeguard the lives of civilian crew members and ensure the security of maritime navigation. The country called upon all parties to uphold international obligations for the safety of global commerce and navigation.
In a separate incident, four Indian nationals lost their lives in an attack on the MV Golden Leopard in Ukraine. The MEA reiterated its condemnation of such attacks on commercial vessels and emphasized the importance of preserving freedom of navigation and commerce.
