Indian Naval Ship INS Sudarshini recently visited Baltimore, Maryland, where it hosted Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland Aruna Miller. The crew of INS Sudarshini also took part in the Baltimore City Parade. The Ministry of Defence highlighted the significance of the ship’s arrival at the Port of Baltimore, emphasizing the strong maritime heritage of India and the enduring friendship between the two nations.
The visit to Baltimore included various maritime engagement and community outreach activities as part of the Sail250 Maryland celebrations, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. INS Sudarshini, as part of its transoceanic expedition, Lokayan 26, reached Baltimore after a journey from Norfolk, Virginia, passing through the historic Chesapeake and Delaware Canal and under major mid-Atlantic bridges.
Participating in the Sail250 Virginia celebrations in Norfolk earlier, INS Sudarshini represented India alongside tall ships from around the world in various parades. The Defence Ministry praised the voyage of INS Sudarshini, covering over 13,000 nautical miles from Kochi to Norfolk in five months, as a testament to India’s maritime traditions and commitment to fostering international friendship and cooperation.
