Indian Naval Sail Training Ship INS Sudarshini is en route to Boston from New York to take part in Sail Boston 2026, continuing the Indian Navy’s message of maritime friendship and goodwill globally. INS Sudarshini represented India at the International Naval Review 250 and SAIL250 celebrations in New York, commemorating the USA’s 250th independence anniversary. The ship’s journey to Boston is a part of the ongoing Lokayan 2026 transoceanic expedition, as per the Ministry of Defence.
INS Sudarshini concluded its visit to New York on July 8, marking a significant milestone in the Lokayan 2026 expedition, according to the Ministry of Defence. The visit aimed to showcase India’s maritime heritage and strengthen the strategic and cultural partnership between India and the United States. The ship’s participation in the International Naval Review 250 and Sail4th 250 celebrations in the USA was part of the Indian Navy’s 10-month transoceanic deployment.
A highlight of INS Sudarshini’s visit was its involvement in the Parade of Sail, where it sailed past iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and along the Hudson River, proudly displaying the Indian National Flag. During its stay in Brooklyn, the ship served as an Ambassador of India, welcoming over 1,000 visitors on board, including members of the Indian diaspora and maritime enthusiasts. Visitors were given insights into Indian Navy’s sail training traditions and maritime heritage.
INS Sudarshini also hosted distinguished guests like the Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish. These visitors interacted with the crew, acknowledging the ship’s role in promoting India’s maritime legacy and enhancing people-to-people and maritime connections between India and the USA. A State Dinner held on board facilitated further strengthening of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
