Indian Railways emerged victorious in the 72nd Senior Men’s National Kabaddi Championship held at Sama Indoor Stadium, Vadodara. They defeated Maharashtra 49-31 in the final match, led by Sunil Kumar, a prominent figure in the Pro Kabaddi League. The tournament featured 29 teams competing in 54 matches over four days.
On their journey to the final, Indian Railways triumphed over teams like Chandigarh and Karnataka before securing a notable win against Maharashtra, captained by Aslam Inamdar, a standout player in the Pro Kabaddi League. The finals saw a dominant performance from Indian Railways, with Pankaj Mohite leading the raiding unit with 12 points and Ashu Malik contributing eight points.
The final day of the championship witnessed intense semifinal clashes between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, and Indian Railways and Chandigarh. Indian Railways and Maharashtra emerged victorious, setting the stage for a thrilling final showdown. Indian Railways showcased a strong all-round performance, with their defense securing 14 tackle points and maintaining pressure on Maharashtra throughout the match.
In the first semifinal, Maharashtra secured a convincing 49-36 win over Uttar Pradesh, with Aditya Shinde shining in the raiding department with 12 points. The team’s defense played a pivotal role, finishing with 14 tackle points. The second semifinal between Indian Railways and Chandigarh ended in a tie, with Indian Railways advancing to the final after a tie-breaker victory. Ashu Malik and Narender Kandola were standout performers for Indian Railways.
Bhavani Rajput topped the raiding standings with 58 raid points, while Shubham Shinde led in tackle points with 27, contributing to Indian Railways’ success in clinching the championship.
