Indian Railways’ RailOne App has been downloaded 2.57 crore times and sees an average of 7.64 lakh ticket bookings daily, as per government data. Around 88% of reserved tickets are now booked online, stated Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Lok Sabha. The RailOne App complements traditional booking methods by offering advanced security features and integrating various ticketing services into a single platform.
In addition to conventional booking modes, Indian Railways has introduced the RailOne App for both reserved and unreserved tickets. This app, available on Android and Apple platforms, provides a range of services including ticket bookings, train inquiries, and grievance redressal. Passengers can also book reserved tickets through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s app/website.
Indian Railways utilizes various agents for ticketing services, including halt agents, Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks, and Station Ticket Booking Agents. The engagement of agents does not require prior experience in issuing railway tickets. The schemes aim to promote self-employment and enhance access to ticketing services, particularly in rural areas.
Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) engages E-ticketing agents for issuing reserved e-tickets. These schemes are open to eligible individuals, including educated unemployed youth, fostering self-employment opportunities. Agents are appointed for a fixed tenure based on the scheme’s terms and conditions, with renewals and fresh applications being part of an ongoing process.
