The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) has lifted restrictions on Indian ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz, urging crews to adhere strictly to security protocols. The DGS, in collaboration with various entities like the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Coastal States, is facilitating the evacuation of stranded seafarers through coordinated efforts. This move aims to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian seafarers amid the evolving situation.
Indian ship owners, managers, and agencies are permitted to operate in the Persian Gulf region, provided they comply with security guidelines set by Coastal States and security agencies. While emphasizing caution, the DGS has advised all maritime stakeholders, including seafarers, masters, and operators, to exercise vigilance when operating in the Persian Gulf area. Vessels transiting through the Gulf region are urged to maintain heightened security awareness and implement necessary security measures.
Stakeholders are instructed to stay updated on advisories from relevant authorities, promptly report any incidents involving Indian seafarers, and verify the authenticity of security-related information from official sources. The DGS has implemented these measures to safeguard the welfare and interests of Indian seafarers, emphasizing the importance of following official channels for information verification and dissemination.
