Second seed Suraj Chand from India staged a comeback to defeat Kuwait’s Ammar Altamimi in the men’s pre-quarterfinals of the Squash PSA Challenger Tour-Chennai. Chand won with scores of 6-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6 at the Indian Squash Academy. Additionally, Om Semwal, Rathika Seelan, Sanya Vats, Unnati Tripathi, and Pooja Arthi Raghu, all from India, progressed to the quarterfinals.
In the men’s category, Om Semwal overcame an initial setback to emerge victorious against Sri Lanka’s Shamil Wakeel. Suraj Chand, the second seed, also secured a spot in the last eight by defeating Kuwait’s Ammar Altamimi. However, Diwakar Singh suffered a loss to Canada’s Salah Eltorgman, while Ayaan Vaziralli was beaten by Malaysia’s Wa Sern Low.
The women’s segment witnessed intense Indian matchups. Unnati Tripathi, the eighth seed, fought back after losing the first game to defeat Ananya Narayanan. Sanya Vats comfortably defeated Scotland’s Lisa Aitken in straight games. Pooja Arthi Raghu caused an upset by defeating Nirupama Dubey, while Rathika Seelan narrowly won against Anika Dubey in a challenging five-game match. Shameena Riaz, however, faced defeat against Malaysia’s Thanusaa Uthrian.
